The recheck before settlement on a Werribee home
Why a second visit to confirm repairs is worth booking before you move in.
In short: A list is only useful if the items on it are actually closed. The recheck is how you know.
Fixed, not just attended
Builders often report items as done when a trade has visited. The recheck confirms the result: the leak has stopped, the fan is ducted, the lock is fitted.
Only the open items
A reinspection goes back through the items from the first report, marking each as closed or still open. It is quicker than the first visit.
Timing it
Book it once the builder confirms the work is complete and before settlement or final payment, while you still have leverage.
If items remain
Send the recheck report to the builder with a request for a firm date. If that fails, the BPC dispute resolution service (formerly DBDRV) is the next step.
